The Prague Security Studies Institute (PSSI) and the Coalition for a Prosperous America (CPA) have released a joint report, Ground Game of Authoritarian Space Powers, which examines how China is pursuing a new space race not only in orbit, but on the ground. The study details how Beijing is working to penetrate and control the space sectors of more than 120 countries through hundreds of ostensibly commercial agreements, via state-controlled Chinese companies that, in effect, act as fronts for the People’s Liberation Army (PLA).

PSSI's latest Perspective examines the rising risks linked to Hesai Technology, a Shanghai-based lidar manufacturer recently designated by the U.S. Department of Defense as a Chinese Military Company. Despite being publicly listed on NASDAQ and dominating over a third of the global lidar market, Hesai is facing mounting scrutiny over its alleged ties to China’s military-industrial complex and surveillance apparatus -- claims which Hesai strenuously deny.

Given President Trump’s recent statement on curbing Iran’s oil and petrochemical exports, PSSI has issued a Flash Traffic Report highlighting 20 publicly traded companies with ties to Iran’s oil and petrochemical infrastructure. These 20 companies have cumulatively enjoyed investments valued nearly $6 billion from American asset managers.

After an in-depth investigation, the Prague Security Studies Institute has found that Swedish financial institutions have invested over $70 million into corporate bad actors, including $14 million into directly sanctioned companies. This includes companies linked to the Chinese military, forced labor abusers, and threats to U.S. national security.

PSSI’s newest Perspective examines the growing risks posed by CATL, a leading Chinese lithium-ion battery manufacturer, due to its ties to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), and China’s Military-Civil Fusion (MCF) strategy. In January 2025, the U.S. Department of Defense designated CATL as a “Chinese Military Company Operating in the United States,” raising serious national security concerns. Nevertheless, CATL is still enjoying substantial Western investment as a publicly traded company, and is further seeking a secondary listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange underwritten by U.S. financial institutions.

PSSI’s newest Perspective examines the role of Chinese arms manufacturers in supplying Hezbollah with advanced weaponry, contributing to the group's military capabilities and regional instability. Despite Hezbollah’s recent setbacks, they remain a threat, and their need to rearm underscores the importance of understanding the supply chains supporting them. 

Given the recent addition of 37 new entities on the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA) Entity List, including some publicly traded companies with substantial Western investment, PSSI has issued a Flash Traffic Report recommending capital markets sanctions on five companies.

The Prague Security Studies Institute (PSSI) has joined forces with advocacy experts from the organization Lobbio to initiate a discussion on how the Czech public service media should fulfill their potentially new and sensitive role related to the proposed amendment of the new § 2 par. 2 in the amendment to the law on Czech Television (and similarly on Czech Radio). According to this amendment, Czech public service media are to be officially tasked with combating disinformation.
