The Prague Security Studies Institute
Security Scholars Program
As part of its Security Scholars Program, PSSI sponsors a Master’s Degree in Security Studies at the prestigious Charles University which commenced in October 2007. The curriculum of this MA program seeks to cover a wide spectrum of subjects in the field of security studies and provides students with solid theoretical training, as well as a detailed understanding of the crucial security challenges of our time (e.g. terrorism, WMD proliferation, energy security, space security, regional conflicts , financial crises etc.). There are presently twelve required courses to complete this two-year MA and the ability to choose from more than thirty facultative courses.
The high-quality lecturers attracted to this MA degree program offer courses focused well beyond the region and the transatlantic relationship. They also cover the Middle East, East Asia and other theaters as well as disciplines like international economics, human security, intelligence and global energy security. PSSI continues to coordinate closely with Charles University with a view toward making its MA degree even more beneficial to current and prospective students. In this connection, PSSI and Charles University established, in 2008, the James Q. Whitaker Security Lectures, named after a principal supporter of the Institute, to bring distinguished guest lecturers from the global security and foreign policy communities (many of them former senior government officials) and academia into the classroom to share their analyses, expertise, and first-hand experiences .PSSI is likewise pursuing the English language accreditation of the Masters Degree program so that English-speaking foreign students can enroll in this dynamic Charles University program. We were recently informed that the English-language MA will officially get underway in fall 2012 – a development sure to impact positively on transatlantic relations and beyond.
