PSSI's Co-Founder and Acting Executive Director Roger W. Robinson, Jr. , authored a study in April 2012, entitled “The Coming China Nexus of the Global Markets and U.S. Security Community.” He received invaluable assistance in preparing this report from his long-time colleague and PSSI Board member, Andrew Davenport.
The primary objective of this study is to illuminate an underdeveloped debate that promises to grow in intensity during the coming months and years regarding the interplay of the global markets and the U.S. security community. China was selected as a case study. Among the implications of these two communities intersecting to a greater extent are: the emergence of the next generation of economic and financial statecraft and sanctions; the exploration of new, security-relevant dimensions of market-based financial risk and corporate and sovereign governance shortfalls; the convergence and divergence of the goals of market players and security policy practitioners; the security implications associated with a “slowed-growth” China; and the prospect of more frequent overlap between these two spheres becoming mutually beneficial.
