The Role of Nuclear Deterrence in European and Global Security

On February 21, 2011 PSSI co-organized two lectures by Dr. Bruno Tertrais, Senior Research Fellow from the Foundation for Strategic Research in Paris

The first lecture by Dr. Tertrais, organized in co-operation with the French Embassy in Prague and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, was attended by more than 40 participants, including officials from the Czech Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense, representatives of think-tanks, academia and diplomats. 

In his lecture, Dr. Tertrais analyzed various aspects of nuclear deterrence and nuclear weapons in present geopolitical landscape, including possible impact of the  Prague Agenda proposed by President Obama in 2008, compatibility of the planned missile defense system and nuclear deterrence and  different roles attributed to nuclear weapons in national security strategies of respective nuclear powers. 

The second lecture on the same topic took place at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the Charles University. It was attended by more than thirty students of Security Studies, MA program established with PSSI´s support.
