Prague Security Studies Institute

Security Scholars Program

The mission of the Prague Security Studies Institute is being advanced by its central initiative, the Robinson-Martin Security Scholars Program (RMSSP). Unlike in the Czech Republic, undergraduate and graduate students abroad have numerous opportunities to pursue the fields of national security and strategic studies.

Accordingly, PSSI launched its Security Scholars Program in 2002, seeking to expand the number of available courses and field trips covering a broad spectrum of security-related subjects. This year will mark the fifth graduating class of PSSI, and now claims over fifty talented alumni.

PSSI has been honored to endow the James Q. Whitaker Chair in Security Studies at Charles University, inaugurated by courses focusing on issues of strategic importance to Central and Eastern Europe. Scores of university students participate annually in these courses, which are regarded as the first steps in the establishment of an undergraduate major or specialization in security studies in the fall of 2006. A PSSI-sponsored Masters Degree program is planned to commence in the fall of 2007.

Since 2005, our network has been greatly enhanced by a large number of young, talented students and scholars participating in our Summer School.
