New Challenges of Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and Israeli Security Policy

On May 12, PSSI hosted Prof. Stuart Cohen from Begin-Sadat (BESA) Center for Strategic Studies at Bar-Ilan University in Israel. Professor Cohen delivered a lecture entitled „Possible Developments of Israeli Security Policy“. Several Czech security experts, diplomats and journalists covering the Middle East took part in the discussion. Prof. Cohen provided valuable insights into the changing role of the army within Israeli society. Top
Turkey in Europe – Europe in Turkey

On April 18, 2006, PSSI, together with the U.S. Embassy in Prague and the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Czech Senate, hosted an expert panel discussion entitled “Turkey in Europe – Europe in Turkey”. Theparticipants,includingguestsfromTurkey, France and the U.S., pondered differentaspectsofTurkey’saccessiontothe European Union. Both favorable and unfavorable views were expressed concerning Turkey’s EU bid, but the dialogue was constructive and illuminating. U.S. Relations with the “New Europe”: How to Face New Threats

PASS, in cooperation with the New York University in Prague, the Polish Institute in Prague and the Vaclav Havel Library hosted a one-day conference on relations between the United States and Europe after the Iraq invasion in 2003, and the role of new EU members in the contemporary transatlantic discourse. Three conference panels addressed the current security issues the EU and the US are now both facing. The conference welcomed distinguished members of our advisory board Jeff Gedmin and Jacques Rupnik, as well as other European and American thinkers. Top
The roundtable on Democracy and Security, organized together with the Forum 2000 Foundation and the Prague Society for International Cooperation, addressed issues related to the post 9/11 security environment. Topics included international cooperation in combating and preventing terrorism and security policies in the context of human rights protection. Top
