Message from the Co-Founders
Since its inception in early 2002, the Prague Security Studies Institute (PSSI) has endeavored to serve as a valuable resource in the field of security studies and with regard to a broad range of security-related policy issues.
Taking advantage of Prague’s central location and unique history, the Institute has not only become a training and academic center for talented young Czech students, but those of the surrounding region as well. Its conferences, seminars and roundtables have been addressing cutting-edge security challenges of the 21st century and attracted highly respected and well-known participants and speakers from across the globe. Our outreach programs are designed to provide institutional models for other like-minded groups in the region that aspire to contribute to the policy debates in their respective countries. The Institute has also taken advantage of the rich experiences of business-statesmen from the private sector who have not only given us their valuable time but also opportunities for our graduating security scholars.
PSSI has set forth to accomplish its mission by means of three core programs – its Robinson-Martin Security Scholars Program, its Program of Atlantic Security Studies (PASS), and its Corporate Council Program. These three institutional pillars have permitted us to:
- engage in the security-minded education and training of generations of regional university undergraduate and graduate students (particularly those of the Charles University in Prague);
- become a public policy hub where students can interact with high-level sitting and former policy-makers;
- facilitate the integration of the fine minds of private sector executives into the life of the Institute.
As we go forward, we will continue to take maximum advantage of the extraordinary backgrounds and skills of our distinguished Boards and Executive Committee as well as the ideas and recommendations of our many generous supporters and donors. Although our mission is clear, PSSI prides itself in having an open architecture that permits us to flexibly and promptly address breaking developments in the global security environment and make the necessary programmatic adjustments to do so. We welcome and respect a wide spectrum of views and opinions in the area of security policy while remaining committed to our underlying philosophy of peace through strength.
